I have been attending anime conventions since A-kon 4 which was pretty much a long time ago in a galaxy far far away or about fourteen years for those wanting exact times. Cosplay has always fascinated me but in that span of a nearly two decades I have never put on an outfit. With zero talent for sewing and always broke I had to admire from outside the cosplay circle and take home the memories on Kodak disposables. As the years have worn on my interest in cosplay has grown even more to point of getting into series photography with the sole purpose of shooting cosplay. If you can’t dress up the next best thing to do is become a Cameko I told myself. I learned almost every cosplayer wants good photos of their work and so I found my skill, my talent that lets me into the circle. Once inside this circle I have had the privileged of meeting some wonderful and skilled people.
In this 4th quarter Cosplayer Spotlight article I have chosen a young lady that impressed me with her craftsmenship, attitude and her sweetness. She was an absolute joy to work with at AnimeFest 2007 and I look forward to doing additional photoshoots with her in the future.
I had the pleasure of preparing five questions for her to let her share with us the why’s and how’s of her personal cosplay experiences. So without further adieu I present to you Miss Katie-chan:

1.How did you get started in Cosplay?
For a long time I was always in some type of performing arts, either clogging or theater musicals. My mom has also been the mom for making those costumes. So when I got into anime and heard people dressed up as the characters I always wanted to do it as well.
2. What is your first costume and why?
I was a strawberry. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3…strawberry.jpg Why? Because my mom needed something last minute and I could at least walk at that time. I got best costume too at the ward costume party. I bet you really wanted to know my first “anime” costume! It was Akane Tendo in junior year of high school. Why? Because it was a simple uniform that I could convince my mom to make and I like Akane from Ranma ½. I went to school and the Halloween High Dance in it but everyone thought I was Alice. The first costume I made myself was Sakura-hime from RC: Tsubasa in 05.
3. What is the most memorable moment you’ve had in your Cosplay history?
AnimeFest 07! There are so many nice memories. The one that stands out the most is when I was stopped by an older lady getting her morning coffee out side the café (I was getting breakfast with my friend). I wake up early at conventions, 6-7 am. So I was mostly in costume already (Sakura pilot). She told me that she loved my costume and that I look amazing like my character and that I should never change. I will most likely never do a sexy character and most often stay with young characters as I’m so small but I love when I can be the character. It’s also been great when people have come up to me saying how they love my costumes. >.<
4. What is your favorite costume you have seen on others?
I have been kind of inspired by SpaceInvaders Amano Terra from FF6. I was so happy when my friends got a picture of her at A-kon 2005. One I have seen in person has been AshuraCastel’s Tomoyo. It was a honor to pose in some photos with her even though I didn’t feel worthy. But certain costumes I always look up are for RC: Tsubasa, Cardcaptors, Kingdom Hearts and Aria. But my favorite thing to do is just be on Cosplay.com for a few hours looking at any costume that catches my eye.
5. Besides Cosplay, name one other hobby you are in to.
I know I will be SHOT if I don’t talk about my hobby that consumes much money, gives me much angst and but can give me a really happy joy (also the reason I have an addition to Sunkist).

I do hope that one day I have a story or something really exciting come from my art but at the moment I take no schooling and almost and its almost always on the back burner like many people hobbies as I have to make money so I can pay for it and even think about doing another costume.
